Becca Husar
Bitter Jester Music Festival Judge
Becca Husar is on a mission to support musicians and artists in navigating the "business" side of the music industry. Armed with a Bachelor of Music degree (commercial music major, cello emphasis) from Millikin University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Northern Illinois University, Becca has embarked on a multifaceted career journey, encompassing roles as a session cellist, orchestra musician, music lesson instructor, small business owner, workshop facilitator, and business consultant. Additionally, she is currently the Associate Director of Innovation and Partnership Development within the College of Business at Northern Illinois University.
Within her role at NIU, Becca manages the De La Vega Innovation Lab, an incubator and entrepreneurship center for all NIU students with innovative ideas or entrepreneurial pursuits (including artists and musicians!). She works directly with students to ensure the feasibility and profitability of their business models through direct mentorship and the facilitation of events, workshops, and programs that connect the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem of industry leaders, founders, researchers, and students.
Outside of her role at NIU, Becca is a music studio owner and instructor, specializing in accessible music lessons to engage young learners, and advanced commercial music techniques for older students. She also serves as the resident session cellist at Gremlen Recording Studios, offering composition and session-playing services. Moreover, Becca helps musicians and bands comprehend the "business" aspect of the music industry. With a specialty in marketing and branding, Becca supports artists in designing marketing campaigns, navigating booking negotiations, and developing professional communication skills. Her goal is to empower fellow indie artists to strategize for long-term, sustainable success.
She is thrilled to be a part of Bitter Jester Music Festival this year, and is more than happy to help the participating musicians distinguish their unique value within the industry. Finding that value and being able to communicate it can lead to new fans, more opportunities, and better pay!
